The YouTube daily limit

What it is, when it resets, and what happens to your edits if you hit it.

If you've seen the message “Today's YouTube limit is reached — it resets at midnight Pacific”, here's exactly what happened and what to do next.

Why there's a limit

YouTube controls how many description changes any third-party app can make in a day, and the daily allowance is shared by everyone using that app. When it's used up for the day, edits stop until it resets — the same way a busy store can run out of a delivery.

This is not a problem with your account, your plan, or your channel, and it does not affect your videos directly. It's simply the day's allowance being used up.

When it resets

The limit resets at midnight Pacific time every day. Depending on where you are, that's late afternoon or evening in the US, or overnight in Europe and Asia. If you hit the limit, the simplest move is to wait for the reset and pick up where you left off.

What happens after a partially completed edit

  • Videos edited before the limit was reached keep their new descriptions. The run summary shows exactly how many were updated and how many failed, so you know what's done.
  • A snapshot is saved automatically before anything changes. Open Undo history in the extension and restore a batch to put every video in it back to its original description — useful if you'd rather start over cleanly.
  • Finish the rest after the reset. Once the limit resets, run the same edit again and the remaining videos will be updated. Nothing needs to be set up again.

We're working on a higher limit

We're speaking with YouTube to increase the daily limit so that large edits — like updating 100+ videos in one go — go through more smoothly for everyone. Until the higher limit is in place, splitting a very large edit across two days is the reliable way to get it all done.

Frequently asked questions

Why did I see “Today's YouTube limit is reached — it resets at midnight Pacific”?

YouTube sets a daily limit on how many description updates the app can perform for everyone, and that limit was reached for the day. It is not a problem with your account, your plan, or your channel.

When does the limit reset?

It resets at midnight Pacific time. That is late afternoon or evening in most US time zones and early the next morning in Europe, so if you hit the limit late in your day, waiting overnight is usually enough.

What happens to the videos that were already edited?

Edits that completed before the limit was reached stay on YouTube. The run summary shows how many videos were updated and how many failed. After the reset, you can run the edit again for the remaining videos.

Can I undo a partially completed run?

Yes. Description Modifier saves a snapshot of your descriptions before it changes anything. Open Undo history in the extension and restore the batch to put every video in it back to its original description.

Is anything being done to raise the limit?

Yes. We are speaking with YouTube to increase the daily limit so larger edits go through more smoothly for everyone.
