How to bulk edit YouTube video descriptions in 2026

A step-by-step guide to updating dozens or hundreds of YouTube descriptions at once — including how to swap expired affiliate links, refresh sponsor URLs, and add new CTAs across your entire catalog.

YouTube Studio has no built-in way to edit descriptions in bulk. If you have 50, 200, or 2,000 videos and you need to swap out an expired affiliate link or add a new sponsor URL, doing it one video at a time is a full day of work.

Here's how to do it in a few minutes instead.

Step 1 — Install a bulk editor

The fastest way is a browser extension that connects to your YouTube channel through Google's official API. Install Description Modifier from the Chrome Web Store (also available on Microsoft Edge). You get 5 free lifetime edits so you can test before paying anything.

Step 2 — Sign in and connect your channel

Open the extension and sign in with Google. Grant access to the YouTube channel you want to edit. If you manage multiple channels (agencies, this is you), the Agency plan lets you connect up to 20 and switch between them with a single click — no re-signing in.

Step 3 — Choose your action

The three most common workflows:

  • Find & Replace — swap old text (an expired affiliate link, an old handle, a discontinued sponsor URL) with new text across every video where it appears.
  • Add a block — insert a Courses, Shop, or "New in shop" section to the top or bottom of every description. Great for launching a new product or promoting a new offer.
  • Delete text — remove a broken link, a wrong hashtag, or an old promo that's no longer relevant.

Step 4 — Preview before you commit

This is the part most bulk tools get wrong: they just run. Description Modifier shows you a line-by-line preview of every video that will change, before/after, so you can catch mistakes. If something looks off, you cancel and adjust. No damage done.

For extra safety, jobs above a certain size require you to type CONFIRM in a safety box — and that box clears itself after every job so you can't accidentally re-run something.

Step 5 — Run the job and refresh

Hit run. Descriptions update through YouTube's API in the background. Open Studio and click the built-in "Refresh Studio tabs" button in the extension to see the changes live. If something looks wrong, use the undo history to roll back.

Common bulk edits people actually do

  • Replacing an expired Amazon affiliate tag across a whole catalog
  • Swapping a sponsor URL when the sponsor changes their landing page
  • Adding a "Join my newsletter" line to every video
  • Removing a discontinued discount code
  • Updating social media handles when you rebrand
  • Adding a new course launch to the bottom of every description

How long does it actually take?

A find-and-replace across 200 videos typically finishes in 3–5 minutes, including preview time. Compare that to doing it manually — even at 60 seconds per video, that's 3+ hours.

What about safety?

Every job is undoable. The extension uses YouTube's official Data API, so nothing sketchy is happening in the browser DOM. Your Google sign-in is managed through Google's official OAuth flow — Description Modifier never sees your Google password.

If you're an agency managing client channels, this is important: you're editing through the exact same permission model YouTube expects, with a full audit trail on your side.
