How to add a link to all YouTube descriptions at once

YouTube Studio can only append text to descriptions. Here's how to add a newsletter signup, course link, affiliate link, or sponsor URL to every YouTube description in one run.

Adding a new link to every video on your channel sounds simple until you realize YouTube Studio doesn't make it easy. Whether you're promoting a new course, dropping a newsletter signup, updating an affiliate link, or adding a sponsor URL, doing it one video at a time can take hours.

Here's how to add a link to all your YouTube descriptions at once — the right way — with a preview before anything goes live.

Why YouTube Studio isn't enough for this

YouTube Studio does have a bulk edit option: select videos, choose Edit → Description, and you can add text to the beginning or end of every selected description. That works if all you need is a plain line at the top or bottom.

But Studio has no way to:

  • Place a link in a specific spot inside the description.
  • Skip videos that already have the link.
  • Show you a preview of what each description will look like before publishing.
  • Undo the change if you paste the wrong URL.

If your descriptions already have a consistent footer, adding a link blindly to the bottom can duplicate content or break your formatting. That's where a dedicated bulk description editor becomes useful.

Common links creators add to every description

  • Newsletter signup. "Join 10,000 readers: yourname.com/newsletter"
  • Course or digital product. A new launch you want every video to point to.
  • Affiliate link. A store, gear list, or recommended tools page.
  • Sponsor or brand URL. A campaign link that needs to appear across a batch of videos.
  • Social or community link. Discord, Patreon, Instagram, or TikTok profile.
  • Updated merch store. A new collection or seasonal drop.

Step 1 — Install a bulk description editor

The fastest way is a browser extension that connects to YouTube through Google's official Data API. Install Description Modifier from the Chrome Web Store (also works on Edge, Brave, and other Chromium browsers). The free plan gives you 5 bulk edits for life, with no cap on videos per run.

Step 2 — Connect your channel

Open the extension and sign in with Google. Grant access to the channel you want to edit. If you manage multiple channels, the Agency plan lets you connect up to 20 and switch between them without signing out and back in.

Step 3 — Choose where the link goes

Description Modifier has two "add" modes that match how most creators want to use links:

  • Add to top — puts the link block at the very start of every selected description. Best for urgent announcements or limited-time promos.
  • Add to bottom — appends the link block to the end of every description. Best for newsletter signups, standard affiliate links, and permanent CTAs.

You can also use Find & Replace if you want to insert the link after a specific line or replace an old placeholder with the new URL.

Step 4 — Write the link block exactly as it should appear

Type the full text, including the link, formatting, and any surrounding copy. For example:

🚀 Join my newsletter for weekly creator tips: https://yourname.com/newsletter

The text is inserted exactly as you type it — capitalization, spacing, emojis, and line breaks are all preserved. If you want the link on its own line, add a line break at the start.

Step 5 — Preview before you run

This is the safety step. The extension shows a line-by-line preview of every video that will change. Read through a few to make sure the formatting looks right and the link is clickable. For larger runs, you'll type CONFIRM in a safety box before the edit ships — and that box clears itself after every run so you can't accidentally repeat it.

Step 6 — Run and refresh

Hit run. The extension writes the changes through YouTube's official API. A 200-video update typically finishes in a few minutes. Use the built-in Refresh YouTube / Studio tabs button to see the changes live, since Studio caches descriptions in the browser.

Tips for adding links in bulk

  • Use a URL you control. If the final destination changes, update your redirect instead of editing 400 descriptions again.
  • Keep the block short. Long footer blocks hurt readability and can look spammy.
  • Include a clear call to action. "Join the newsletter" beats a naked URL.
  • Test on 3 videos first. Run a small batch, check the result in Studio, then scale up.
  • Save the block for next time. If it's a recurring CTA, save it as a block in the extension so you can drop it into future runs with one click.

What to avoid

  • Adding the same link twice. If some videos already have it, use Find first to see which ones match.
  • Broken or redirected links. Test the URL before running it across every description.
  • Overstuffing descriptions. Too many links can dilute your main CTA and look unprofessional.

The short version

YouTube Studio can append text to descriptions, but it can't preview, position, or undo a bulk link addition. A dedicated extension like Description Modifier lets you add a link to all your YouTube descriptions at once, see exactly what will change, and roll back if needed.
